{Football Food Week} HOT (or not) Baked Teriyaki Wings!

Okay y'all, I don't think I've ever been SO excited to write a blog post. These came out SOOOOOOO Good. Way better than I could have ever expected. I'm not typically a "wing" person-- eating anything off the bone kinda freaks me out. Makes me feel like a wild animal. But after I took one bite, I went all primal on these babies. THEY WERE SO GOOD.

I knew if I was going to do football recipes I would at some point have to cover wings. Like I previously mentioned I'm not a wing person so I wasn't super syked about this but whatevs. Wings are football food, had to be done. I knew that I didn't want to fry them but I wanted them to be crispy and I knew I wanted Teriyaki wings. Teriyaki wings are my fave. So I treated these little wings the same way I treat my potatoes when I want to get them crispy in the oven, liberal amounts of olive oil and a hot hot oven. As Borat would say "Great Success!" To really take it up a notch I made a homemade Teriyaki sauce that will rock your socks, added a little heat and it was on like donkey kong. The sauce can also be made gluten free super easily- just use a GF soy sauce. If you don't like spicy, just leave out the Sriracha sauce and the red pepper flakes and you will have a great traditional Teriyaki sauce. 

You could use the basic wing idea and dress these up in a variety of sauces, obviously, but you should really try the Teriyaki! It's phenomenal!

Ingredients: 
3.5 lb chicken wing sections
1 Tbsp. olive oil (or enough to coat all the wings completely)
1 tsp. seasoned salt
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. black pepper

For the Teriyaki Sauce:
1 1/2 C. cold water
3/4 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. soy sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
3 Tbsp. corn starch
2 Tbsp. Sriracha sauce
1 tsp. red pepper flakes

Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place wings in a large bowl and add olive oil, toss to coat all wings completely adding more olive oil if necessary.

Step 2: Add seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper to wings. Toss to coat.

Step 3: Spread wings evenly on a baking sheet. Cook in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Step 4: When wings are finished transfer them to a Tupperware container. Add sauce to the Tupperware, close the top tightly and shake to coat the wings.

For Teriyaki Sauce:

Step 1: Whisk together water, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, corn starch, sriracha sauce, and red pepper flakes in a medium sized sauce pan. Turn heat to medium high heat. Watch your sauce and whisk frequently, as soon as it starts to boil whisk continually until it thickens and remove from heat.
NOTE: I didn't make the full recipe- I only cooked about 1 lb. of wings because it was just me at the house! However, I did make the full amount of Teriyaki sauce so that I could save some in the fridge for some grilled chicken this weekend :-)
My leftover sauce... Yes! This will be so good this weekend!
